KA1 project 2019-20. Course Advanced English for Teachers

DISCOVERING EXETER

Being a student in Exeter is a great experience. Exeter, capital city of Devon, is small but perfectly formed, safe and quiet but buzzing, green and full of parks and open spaces, modern but retaining historical splendour, close to both countryside and seaside,

Exeter was founded by the Romans in AD55 and its Roman Walls still show the limits of the original city to this day. Throughout history, these walls have been repeatedly reinforced to deflect the unwanted attentions of the Saxons, the Vikings and the Normans, all of whom have gained control of Exeter during its two-thousand year history.
The centre of Exeter is dominated by the impressive Cathedral and picturesque Cathedral Green. Its high street combines historic buildings such as The Guildhall with post-war redevelopment architecture.

  MY LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN EXETER

Erasmus plus key action 1 provided me an opportunity to participate in an international training course in Exeter. The course title was Advanced English for Teachers from 14th to 27th July, it was held in International Projects Centre,in historic Colleton Crescent, overlooking Exeter quayside and the River Exe.
Before the mobility: I was asked to complete a short online Pre-Course Placement Test.
During the course: I took part in engaging, co-operative classroom activities to look at areas such as colloquial language, idioms, language variation and change. I improved my English skills, especially my spoken English, in terms of accuracy and fluency as well as my knowledge, and become a more confident user of English.

I had the opportunity to explore the local area with an IPC guide on escorted trips to places of interest, experiencing language in its cultural and social setting (we went to Sidmouth, Padstow, Boscastle and Dartmoor National Park.
I put course content into practice by planning a lesson about food festivals which I explained with a fellow course participant to others in my class.
